Cross Country
Room 4 have been training to build our fitness and resilience for the Cross Country. The day finally came and we all gave it our best. Everyone completed it with pride and perseverance. Congratulations to all in Room 4 who raced with true determination. We even had two place-getters who won medals. Well done to Lillie for her first place in the 6 year old girls and Theo for his third place in the 6 year old boys!! Take a look at our photos.

Whitebait Connection - Session Three - Wairoa Stream
Many thanks to the parents that came on our trip to the Wairoa Stream. Your support is very much appreciated!
We had a fantastic time at the Wairoa Stream. We measured the water clarity, tested the PH levels, measured the temperature, measured the conductivity and searched for and
identified invertebrates. The great news is that the Wairoa Stream is quite healthy.
Have a look at all our photos!

Whitebait Connection - Session Two - Waterway Preparation
Today we had our second Whitebait Connection session in preparation for our waterway investigation tomorrow. We tested some water and carried out some investigations. We also identified some freshwater animals and learnt how to tell if a waterway is healthy. Room 4 are going to learn how to help our local waterway, Wairoa Stream. We are going to be kaitiaki. We can't wait for tomorrow!!

Whitebait Connection - Session One - Introduction
Today we had our introduction to the Whitebait Connection as a lead-up to our 'action project'.
We learnt how fresh water is a very precious resource. We looked at freshwater environments and habitats. A wetland is usually on flat ground, often at the bottom of hills before the water enters the sea where it slows down, acting like filters for the water - often referred to as the kidneys of the land.
Wetlands are a very important habitat for many specialised plants and animals. Unfortunately over 90% of our wetlands have been destroyed by reclamation or drainage for development. This water is also affected by pollution.
In relation to this, we also have been learning about the water cycle. When water falls from the sky it starts to collect up in all sorts of places and slowly makes its way out to sea and back up into the sky as evaporation, where it gets filtered and recycled.
We finished with a game called 'The Whitebait Run'. We had a great time!
